Directors
The gallery was founded by Jane Houldsworth in Edinburgh in 1986. Handwritten invitations were
sent to 100 friends and there was an impromptu opening party on August 14th. In the mid nineties
the gallery moved to London where it is now based firmly in a pretty courtyard in Chelsea just
off Kings Road.
Today there is a database of over 6000 collectors and around 200 artists have been shown, ranging
from established to young unknown talent. Many careers have flourished, with work now in public
and private collections throughout the world. 95 solo exhibitions have been mounted and the gallery
has always had a strong presence at art fairs in the UK as well as the US and Hong Kong.
This year Ruth Mulvie joined the gallery as a fellow Director. She is a graduate of Glasgow
School of Art and has gained much experience in the gallery and art consultancy field in
Scotland where she started her career.
