Alastair Gray
Alastair Gray was born in 1972 in Selkirk in the Scottish Borders and graduated from Leeds University with a first class honours degree in Art and Design in 1994. Before focussing on painting he spent eight years as a sculptor working on Public Art commissions, as well as working on smaller works for gallery exhibitions. His work is in many collections including the EU headquarters in Brussels.
‘My paintings should read as abstract landscapes. Each surface is built up by using many layers of colour applied in a variety of media. This gives each landscape a history evoking the effect that time has on an environment’s physical appearance.
The compositions are constructed from both deliberate and accidental mark making allowing a rich and varied surface to develop. Although each image is based on a specific location I often allow the composition room to develop and change as the surface evolves. However, the underlying feeling of what it is like to stand in that location remains.’ Alastair Gray, 2007
Works range from £1,000-£7,000
